How To Make A Reference List For A Research Paper

When you are creating a social or a psychological work, you must use the APA (American Psychological Association) style to make references for research papers. In accordance with this format, after every paraphrase, you need to mention the name of the author and year of writing. Here are two examples for you:

  • • Start the reference list on a new page after the text of your paper. • Center the label at the top of the page and write it in bold. • It is acceptable to use “Reference” as the label when you cited only one source in your paper. Format references in seventh edition APA Style. • Double-space the reference list, both within and between references.

  • Italicize the title of the journal and capitalize all words in the title of the journal. This sample includes the volume number (23) which is italicized to set it off from the other numbers. The issue number (65) appears in parentheses and is not italicized.

  • Start a new page for your Reference list. Centre the title, References, at the top of the page. Double-space the list. Start the first line of each reference at the left margin; indent each subsequent line five spaces (a hanging indent). Put your list in alphabetical order. Alphabetize the list by the first word in the reference.
